notes from briefing lecture

1.0 REGION

1.1 DJILIMBARDI out station of the West Kimberley

1.2 Approximately 220km South West of Fitzroy Crossing (nearest town)

1.3 Located at the top of the Great Sandy Desert

1.4 Landscape is vast and shifting. Changes in soil type and geology are notable from observing banks/rows of vegetation

1.5 December to March is monsoon season (wet season)

1.6 January & February area can become isolated due to severe flooding

2.0 DESIGN CONSIDERATIIONS

2.1 Material availability to remote area. Materials to be brought in on truck. Possibly in only a single delivery. No crane or other heavy machinery. Construction should be simple.

2.2 Lightweight construction, enabling heat to dispense quickly at night. Des Smith advices NO THERMAL MASS.

2.3 Cold nights require only to ‘rug up’ with a jumper, or jacket, in the case of the locals.

2.4 Main design goal should be for sun shading. ALL DAY & ALL YEAR. Some winter sun may be pleasant.

2.5 DJILIMBARDI is located north of the Tropic of Capricorn. Midday sun position during summer is to the South
